The Prevention team continues to expand their reach through the 2017 Pregnancy Babies and Children's Expos in Adelaide 7-9 April, Perth 11-13 August and Melbourne 6-8 October. We aim to engage over 12,000 parents and families through our stands and provide vital burns safety and first aid information over the year.

Children aged 0-5 years old represent over 74% of the total hospital admissions for paediatric burn injuries. The 1-2 year age group has the highest incidence of burn injuries representing 34% of all paediatric cases. The Pregnancy, Babies & Children's Expo is the ideal event to raise awareness of burn injury prevention and first aid education for parents, grandparents and carers.

FIRST AID QUICK GUIDE
In an emergency call 000
1. REMOVE
Remove any clothing and jewellery from the affected area to allow effective cooling of the burn.
2. COOL
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes - this will stop the burning process and also help ease the pain.
3. COVER
Cover the burn with a clean lint free cloth or if it is a large area, cover loosely with cling wrap to lessen the chance of infection.
4. SEEK
Seek medical advice if the burn is larger than a 20 cent piece or on the face, hands, feet or groin area.
