Pregnancy Babies and Children's Expo Adelaide 7-9 April 2017

We had three great days at the Adelaide Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expo, April 7th to 9th at the Adelaide Showground, Wayville. This year we reached over 2,600 parents and families by providing them with burns prevention and first aid education. We also had Kidsafe SA join us to educate about button battery injuries.

Children aged 0-5 years old represent over 74% of the total hospital admissions for paediatric burn injuries. The 1-2 year age group has the highest incidence of burn injuries representing 34% of all paediatric cases.

The PBC Expo is the ideal event to raise awareness of burn injury prevention and first aid education for parents, grandparents and carers. Our sixth year at the PBC Expo has again been a great way to reach a key at risk demographic. We also had the support of our wonderful Burns Trust volunteers and corporate volunteers from our partner AGL Energy.

In an emergency call 000
Remove any clothing and jewellery from the affected area to allow effective cooling of the burn.
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes - this will stop the burning process and also help ease the pain.
Cover the burn with a clean lint free cloth or if it is a large area, cover loosely with cling wrap to lessen the chance of infection.
Seek medical advice if the burn is larger than a 20 cent piece or on the face, hands, feet or groin area.
