PBCE Melb 2017

Melbourne Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expo

We had three great days at the Melbourne Pregnancy, Babies and Children's Expo, October 6th to 8th at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This was our third and most succesful year in Melbourne with a record breaking 4,938 parents and families provided with burns prevention and first aid education.

Children aged 0-5 years old represent over 74% of the total hospital admissions for paediatric burn injuries. The 1-2 year age group has the highest incidence of burn injuries representing 34% of all paediatric cases.

The PBC Expo is the ideal event to raise awareness of burn injury prevention and first aid education for parents, grandparents and carers. Our third year at the PBC Expo has again been a great way to reach a key at risk demographic. A massive thanks for their invaluable assistance to our volunteers from AGL Energy.

In an emergency call 000
Remove any clothing and jewellery from the affected area to allow effective cooling of the burn.
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes - this will stop the burning process and also help ease the pain.
Cover the burn with a clean lint free cloth or if it is a large area, cover loosely with cling wrap to lessen the chance of infection.
Seek medical advice if the burn is larger than a 20 cent piece or on the face, hands, feet or groin area.
