First BurnSafe session of 2018

Our first BurnSafe session for 2018 was at Little Hearts Childcare Centre in Elizabeth South. The BurnSafe Junior program educates children and their families about the incidence of burn injury, prevention and harm minimisation strategies, making safe choices and burns first aid. BurnSafe Junior is aimed for 3-6 year olds and encourages children to become more aware of the incidence of burn injury, its major causes and how they can reduce the risk of suffering a burn injury. FIRST AID QUICK GUIDE
In an emergency call 000
1. REMOVE
Remove any clothing and jewellery from the affected area to allow effective cooling of the burn.
2. COOL
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes - this will stop the burning process and also help ease the pain.
3. COVER
Cover the burn with a clean lint free cloth or if it is a large area, cover loosely with cling wrap to lessen the chance of infection.
4. SEEK
Seek medical advice if the burn is larger than a 20 cent piece or on the face, hands, feet or groin area.
