ANZBA ASM 2016 - Auckland

The 2016 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), of the Australian & New Zealand Burn Association (ANZBA) was held in Auckland from the 11-14th October. ANZBA are the peak body for health professionals responsible for the care of the burn injured in Australia and New Zealand.

Over four days in Auckland this international forum hosted over 300 burn care leaders and practitioners and provided a setting to meet, learn, share knowledge and recognise accomplishments in improving burn care and support.

We presented an ePoster on the background of the BurnSafe Junior Education Program, our early learning education and prevention program which was launched in South Australia in June this year. This program has been designed to tackle the high incidence of burn injury in children aged 3-5 years old.

We look forward to attending next year's ANZBA ASM in Adelaide.

In an emergency call 000
Remove any clothing and jewellery from the affected area to allow effective cooling of the burn.
Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes - this will stop the burning process and also help ease the pain.
Cover the burn with a clean lint free cloth or if it is a large area, cover loosely with cling wrap to lessen the chance of infection.
Seek medical advice if the burn is larger than a 20 cent piece or on the face, hands, feet or groin area.
