Support

The impact of severe burn injury is devastating not only for burn survivors but also their families. The Burns Trust is committed to facilitating and enabling support programs for burn survivors and their families through the annual Adult Burn Survivor Education & Support Forum and Rebound Burns Survivor Fund.

Adult Burn Survivor Education & Support Forum

In 2016/17 the annual National Burn Survivor Education & Support Forum was held on the Sunshine Coast, QLD from 2-4 June with the support of Molnlycke Healthcare and Clipsal by Schneider Electric.

This year we catered separately for Acute Burn Survivors (burn injury sustained <5 yrs) and Non Acute Burn Survivors (burn injury sustained >5 yrs) with two separate streams and agenda topics. A contingent of over 40 burn survivors and their carers were in attendance to hear about the latest in physiotherapy and exercise and given practical strategies for coping with ongoing psychological & emotional challenges. The forum also provided an opportunity for burn survivors to connect with others who have shared similar experiences.

Rebound Burns Survivor Fund

The Rebound Burns Survivor Fund, partnered with the NAB was established in December 2014 to support burn survivors and their families across SA and NT and provide them with financial assistance once they leave the hospital setting.

In 2016/17, funds were raised by the NAB Rebound Committee through a number of innovative initiatives to support burn survivors on their road to recovery. We are currently working with the Women's & Children's Hospital in SA to determine how these funds can best support paediatric burn survivors.
