Annual Report 2013/14 . Fundraising & Events


Fundraising is a critical component of our work and we are very appreciative of those who take the time and effort to fundraise for us. This is a growth area for us and over the next 12 months we will see greater investment into our Fundraising & Events team with the aim to generate sustainable income streams. This will be achieved through realising greater opportunities for our corporate partners, supporters and the general public to be involved with our fundraising efforts. 

Third Party Fundraising

For the third consecutive year, Gasworks and Bosch have teamed up to raise funds to support the Burns Trust through it's Winter Hot Water cash back scheme where $30 from every Bosch hiflow hot water system sold at the Gasworks stores is donated to advance our prevention activities in schools and community. 

NAB have committed to continue their long standing partnership with us with a focus on raising much needed funds to advance our support strategy. The Rebound Burn Survivor Fund will be funded through the fantastic fundraising efforts of the NAB retail branches, each working with their own communities to fundraise. Funds will be distributed through a committee with referrals by burns unit hospital staff and community professionals. The fund will be operational in early 2015.

In April, ‘The Look' Cycling Team took seven days to ride 1000kms, travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne to help raise awareness of the incidence and impact of burn injury in regional SA and VIC. At the same time they raised valuable funds for our burn prevention initiatives. The team was officially farewelled from the Royal Adelaide Hospital by the Right Honourable, Lord Mayor Mr Stephen Yarwood. Along their journey, the group caught the attention of the local media helping us deliver our prevention messages to regional towns in South Australia and Victoria.

This was our first year of selling the Entertainment Books and, although sales were down on our initial forecast, it is an area we can grow over the coming years with support from our corporate partners.

Keeping with our strategy of building sustainable income streams we welcomed new initiatives with corporate partners Springfield Direct and Voiteck. Each of these businesses have agreed to donate a percentage of every sale through engaging with our partner and supporter networks. Springfield Direct will donate 10% of every sale made through their on-line fresh produce business with the code JBBT and Voiteck are donating 5% of every sale as a result of a referral through our business channels.

Fundraising Events 

This year our major fundraiser was the spectaular Gala Dinner & Auction held at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide. Entertainment was provided by Darren Percival and the Lucky 7 band who got everyone up on their feet to dance the night away. The evening was sponsored by the NAB as our major sponsor, D'Vine Ripe and Thirsty Camel with beer and wines supplied by Coopers and Johnston Wines respectively. $38,000 was raised through ticket sales, auctions and raffles by the 310 attendees and we thank them for their generous support.

The City to Bay continues to be a strong branding opportunity and fundraiser for us and, with Key Invest as our major sponsor, had 74 runners/walkers in the Burns Trust team. A special thanks to staff from our corporate partners AGL, Key Invest and the team from the Royal Adelaide Hospital for their participation.
